Intro | Approach to CEO Coaching | About Robert Herzog
How I work with CEOs
I believe life is better with real personal connections, caring communities and a sense of play. How does that apply to being a great CEO Coach?
- Real personal connection – That’s what true relationships are about. I’m on your team. To be the best CEO you can be, you need someone who believes in you as a person and a leader. This isn’t just business. It’s your life
- Caring Communities – As part of my CEO Coaching approach, I plan to connect CEOs with other like-minded peers and facilitate communal learning experiences
- Sense of Play – Your job shouldn’t be painful. You should have fun with it. That only comes when you have the right systems in place, people around you and approach to life
My Approach and Meeting Rhythm
I generally engage with CEOs for the long run but the financial relationship is on a quarterly or annual basis. There is always an “out” at any time you decide.
- Get to know you call – pre-engagement. You’ve got to feel a sense of connection with me and vice versa for this to work
- Start-up
- Intake assessment including Sense of Happiness score
- Kickoff meeting (60 minutes)
- Weekly Coaching Sessions
- Homework (15-30 minutes)
- Weekly calls (60 minutes)
- Monthly 360 feedback call – honest 360 of how this is working for both of us (15 minutes)
- Quarterly Review – Sense of Happiness Score and business metrics (60 minutes)
- 360 degree review (Board, investors, management team, in/direct reports) - Optional
- Quarterly and Annual Planning (TBD)
There are three primary roles a CEO Coach can play in your life:
- CEO Coach – This is the space where I primarily play. Helping CEOs focus on the most important things, acting as a sounding board and advising them based on my 30 years of experience.
- Company Culture coach
- Cascading decision making guide
- Strategic advisor and innovation catalyst
- Accountability partner
- System and process guide
- Whole person (life, relationships and drivers of happiness) coach
- Entrepreneurial System Implementer – Being an expert in Scaling Up, EOS, MAP or another system and helping implement it throughout the organization including facilitating management team meetings and ensuring team alignment.
- I’ve implemented an entrepreneurial operating system at ZogLife based on some of the aforementioned systems plus added modules to enhance results (e.g., hiring and feedback/review modules)
- I’m system agnostic. I can recommend systems and the pros and cons. I can help you think through your approach
- I can even help implement, but there are experts out there who specialize in systems implementation. This is not my primary sandbox
- CEO Peer Group Facilitation – Many CEOs have Forums through EO, YPO or industry groups. Most are self-moderated and cross industry. While these groups have value, I believe that a moderated group of like-minded peers (similar industries, types of business or company complexity) is even more valuable. I plan to add these services in the next few months
